TBG Spring Hog Hunt
Chickasawhatchee WMA  April 20-22

Hunt hogs and turkeys with fellow TBG members at this Southwest Georgia WMA that's south of Albany and just east of Leary, Georgia.

Chickasawhatchee WMA lies in the middle of the second largest swamp in Georgia, second only to the Okefenokee Swamp in Southeast Georgia. The property ranges from upland plantation pines to palmetto swamps among the numerous creeks. Scattered throughout the property are many gum ponds and cypress swamps. Bring your camera, it's a place you'll want to remember.

At 19,700 acres there will be plenty of room for everyone. Turkey season will be in full swing so bring a few calls and make it a combo hunt. This WMA is well known for it's long standing hog population. Believed by many to have been established by Fernando DeSoto on his trip through Georgia and the Chickasawhatchee swamp in 1540.

There are two camping areas on the WMA. Both are primitive, no water or electricity available. There are plenty of motels in Albany, 20 minutes away, for those not wishing to camp.

Bring rubber boots for the swamp, it will probably still be wet.

Directions from Albany:
Take Hwy. 91 south from Albany 4 miles to jct. with Hwy. 62; turn right and go 15 miles; follow signs to check station. First check station will be just across the road from Mud Creek Rd (Paved road). Just down this road on the left is also the camping area. A TBG sign will be posted on the Highway.
